Validus Group has appointed Chong Khai Siang as its chief financial officer, while Stonepeak has named Yuichi Jimbo as its chairman in Japan.

Validus appoints Chong Khai Siang as new CFO

Singapore-based digital financing platform Validus Group has appointed Chong Khai Siang as its chief financial officer, effective immediately.

Chong, who will report to Group CEO Nikhilesh Goel, will oversee the finance and corporate development function at Validus. He will also lead the group’s business strategy across Southeast Asia, per the announcement.

Prior to Validus, Chong was a senior leader at Fullerton Financial Holdings, an investor in financial services focusing on SMEs and the mass market.

Founded in 2015, Validus uses data analytics and technology to provide efficient, affordable, and accessible financing to small businesses. The group, through its subsidiaries, including Batumbu in Indonesia, has disbursed more than $3.5 billion in loans.

The firm recently secured loans totalling about $17.6 million from Dutch entrepreneurial development bank FMO and social investor Oikocredit.

Yuichi Jimbo joins Stonepeak to head Japan office

US infrastructure and real estate investment firm Stonepeak has appointed Yuichi Jimbo as chairman in Japan, effective July 1.

Yuichi, who most recently worked at Bank of America, serving as chairman of investment banking and vice chairman at BofA Securities Japan, will be based in Tokyo to help support the execution of Stonepeak’s investment strategies in the country.

He was also deputy president and head of Investment Banking at JPMorgan in Japan.

Hajir Naghdy, senior managing director and head of Asia and the Middle East at Stonepeak, said Jimbo will be “highly additive” to the firm’s established Asia-Pacific team.

In March, Stonpeak announced the final close of its maiden Asia-Pacific fund at $3.3 billion. The fund, Stonepeak Asia Infrastructure Fund, received commitments from new investors. The final close of the fund brings Stonepeak’s total assets under management to $61.1 billion.
